Oh So Stoned Has a New Outlet at Jubilee Hills

Oh So Stoned has always been widely acknowledged as one of the top ice cream outlets in Hyderabad.  Their Nutty Overload, Rum Baba and Scarface have been long time favorites of mine. From their initial place at Karkhana, they expanded to the “Ice Cream Street” opposite KBR Park. And finally they have come to Hitech City with opening of their larger Jubilee Hills outlet.

The new place, which is located in the same building which houses the Big Brew Bus and Blue Bottle Café has a lot more space. As you enter the colorful and well-designed interiors catch your eyes. The menu has also been expanded, apart from ice creams and shakes, it includes a whole new range of snacks including two new categories – Munchies and Dig It.

As they have positioned this outlet as a lounge, they have brought in variety in their menu so that people with different tastes will find the place attractive and will be inclined to spend more time here. I was interested in trying out the Munchies which are essentially short eats or finger food.  The choices you have in these are potato wedges, macaroni and onion rings. These can be tried with a choice of six sauces -  Italian, Mexican, Jamaican, Barbeque, Indian and Punjabi. The combo is attractively priced at Rs 120.  The Mac N Cheese and the onion rings worked out perfect for me with the Italian Job and Punjabi by Nature sauces. The potato wedges with Jamaican Jerk had too much of seasoning for my liking. It is to be noted that at Oh So Stoned, all spice mixes and seasonings are prepared in house.

They have couple of other special items in the short eats menu – the samosa, which is a must have here is stuffed with corn, cheese and spinach. This was different from the normal samosa you get, and as you bite into it the crunchy upper layer combines with the cheese and spinach inside to provide a heavenly taste. Finger licking stuff! The Jalapeno poppers were soft and the melted in the mouth.

Oh So Stoned has possibly the best cheesecake in Hyderabad.  A large slice of Baked Cheesecake (Rs 190) with caramel sauce dripping over it was brought out for me. One bite into the cheesecake and the flavour of cheese fills your mouth titillating your taste buds. In many places in Hyderabad, the cheesecake tastes bland with hardly any flavour of cheese. Oh So Stone is a worthy exception.
The Churros were crunchy but a bit too sweet for me, but the taste of the warm chocolate sauce made up for it. It is something which can be polished off on its own.

Finally, it was time for the signature ice creams. The seasonal Sitaphal pulp was served with nuts and ice cream. The Sitaphal was fresh and soft and provided the true fruity taste. At Oh So Stoned all their ice creams are made from milk unlike some other outlets who use vegetable fats.

Red Velvet Ice Cream was another stone creation. Half of the red velvet cake was in the ice cream whereas the other portion was on top like an iceberg. The advantage of this is that while you enjoy your cake in the ice cream, you can enjoy a part separately too. Vanilla ice cream and fresh cream were used in this dessert.

Pan Shaan
I asked for my favorite Pan Shaan at the end. The betel leaf based ice cream had always been a favorite of mine, and now the almonds have been replaced by coconut. I liked the change though the coconut taste was a wee bit overpowering.

The place offers only vegetarian food. It is nice to see the ice cream outlet metamorphosing into a lounge, and having something or else for everyone. I could not try out their Dig It and will soon be back for some.
