A Leisurely Sunday Brunch at Fusion 9

The Fusion 9 group of restaurants (Deli 9, Fusion 9 and Coastal Spice Kitchen) have all been favorites of mine. So I was quite pleased when as part of the anniversary celebrations of Fusion 9, I received an invite to try out their Sunday brunch at Inorbit Mall. On the designated Sunday I landed up at the Inorbit Mall outlet with two food lover friends.

This was my first visit to this particular branch of the restaurant – I had been to their Banjara Hills outlet a few times. Situated on the top floor of Inorbit Mall, the swank place has both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating offers a breathtaking view of Durgam Cheruvu just across the road.

As you enter, you find the bar to your left and the salad and dessert counters next to it. I loved the presentation of the salads as well as the desserts. As I went through the menu for the brunch I found that it was elaborate and strictly multi-cuisine consisting of Indian, Continental and Pan Asian delicacies, which means there is something for everyone.

We started with mocktails.  On offer were Blue Curacao, Aam Panna, and a Mango based drink. I tried the Aam Panna which was tangy and  refreshing.

The brunch menu had two veg and two non-veg starters. The Pan Fried Fish in Chili Garlic Oil was spicy and the fish was extremely fresh. It was a round and crisp vegetarian starter Jalapeno and Corn Galette which attracted us most. The best dish of the night was possibly the Hara Chicken kebabs which were soft and succulent and the green coriander-mint marinade was fresh and flavorful.

The Chicken Shawarma Wrap was the pick of the lot. It went especially well with the red salad served with it. Also available were Falafel Wrap and Grilled Chicken Tikka Wrap.

The pizzas served were thin crust. In the initial serving, we found it too thin for our liking. However they brought in an Olive Corn & Pepper Pizza which was fresh and quite well prepared. The topping rich in cheese and vegetables and the fresh base made it a delightful combination.

The brunch has a live counter which is indoor. The live counter should have been outdoor in my view, as the smoke from the spicy toss ups was troubling to some extent.

The stir fry section had veg, chicken, prawn and fish and the choice of three sauces – Teriyaki, Malaysian and Sweet Chili. We tried various combos, but what worked best for me was prawns and vegetables tossed in Malay sauce.

The live counter also serves a range of pastas. Chicken Penne and Fusilli Arabiata were the pastas on offer.

Another dish which I took a fancy to was the Burmese Chicken Khao Suey. Not many places in Hyderabad serve this, and this was another pick of the brunch. The dish had noodles, chicken and vegetables in a thick broth with strong flavor of coconut milk. This can be a full meal by itself.

Among the main courses, we tried out their Malabar Chicken Biryani and Awadhi Veg Biryani. Found the rice slightly dry and underdone in both the preparations. However the Malabar Biryani had a very rich and flavorful coconut based masala which added to the taste of the succulent chicken pieces. They also had other gravy items like Mutton Rogan Josh which could be savoured with rotis and naans.

The dessert counter had a lot to offer – there were at least 10-15 varieties. The Tiramisu, a coffee flavored dessert was the pick of them all. A chocolate and nut based preparation and the Almond Tart were also quite good.

The brunch is priced at Rs 950 plus taxes. Alcohol is not included. There was an offer of 1+1 available on the drinks menu on the day we went. Overall a value for money brunch for the Hitech City guys to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning.
