The Ancient Barbeque, Noida

Barely over a month old, The Ancient Barbeque which recently opened up in Noida Sector 63 has already created waves in the foodie world. Competing against giants such as Barbeque Nation, the Ancient Barbeque has had a pretty decent start and will look to capitalise on this.

Decked with abstract art paintings on the walls and furnished with a wooden layout of chairs and tables, the decor of the restaurant is really enthralling. Like most of the barbeque restaurants, there is a live charcoal barbeque on every table. All the starters are served directly to the table and the half cooked skewers can be finished off by the foodies themselves by adding marinates according to their taste preferences.

Accompanied with a complimentary mocktail, the starters fell in the first line of attack. Though each and every starter had its novelty, the Crispy Chilli Garlic Prawns and Mayo Potato Salsa really stole the show. Touched with sour cream, mayonnaise and onions on potato cutlets, the Mayo Potato Salsa was a preparation that I had never tasted before.

Mexican Pineapple, Pudina Fish Tikka and Paneer Tikka Jalandhari were the other starters worth mentioning. Other than the ones offered in the BBQ deal, we also tried their Chilli Fish and Mutton Burrah. Though their Chilli Fish tasted more or less like the Chilli Garlic Prawns, it was the Mutton Burrah which surprised us. Rich and succulent, one could gnaw on the lamb chops for hours without getting tired.

In most of the barbeque restaurants, I often find that the main dishes are a shadow of what the starters were, but, surprisingly, in The Ancient Barbeque, their main course dishes were at least at par if not better than their starters. Their saag preparations deserve most of the accolades, especially Sarson ka saag and Methi Chicken which were topped with white butter. The concept of amplifying the saag's taste was certainly refreshing as it had the required zing. The misty sweet Rogan Josh and spicy Hyderabadi Biryani too give a fair reflection of the Kashmiri and Nizami cuisine.

For the sweet tooth, I would definitely recommend their Caramel Tart, Chocolate Brownie and Beetroot ka Halwa with ice-cream. Made of mashed and boiled beetroots, the halwa complemented the vanilla ice-cream extremely well, making a fine end to the wonderful meal. At the end of the feast, there are pan shots which refresh your mouth and is a must try for one and all.
